‘The Balancing Act’ Features Habelman Bros: The Largest Grower of Fresh Cranberries in the World

Cranberries are one of the healthiest fruits in the world, especially when they are consumed in their whole form, yet less than 5% of cranberries are sold as fresh fruit.  To top it off, most products on the market that contain cranberries mask their inherent goodness through processing with added sugars and or flavors.  Tune in to The Balancing Act October 22nd at 7:00 am (ET/PT) on Lifetime Television to hear fourth-generation cranberry farmer Ray Habelman talk about the benefits of fresh whole cranberries and how they can be enjoyed all year long.

According to Habelman, producing quality fresh cranberries is much more labor intensive than other crops, and most farmers shy away from the challenge.  Habelman Bros, on the other hand, has been growing cranberries for over 100 years and now has over 700 acres dedicated to their production, making them the world's largest "fresh" grower of this amazing "super fruit."

Ray is joined on the show by his wife Staci, who demonstrates a number of easy recipes that utilize fresh cranberries.  From everyone's old favorite cranberry sauce to more elaborate creations like cranberry-mango relish and cranberry muffins, Staci shows how simple it can be to cook with fresh cranberries.  She recommends buying cranberries in the fall when they are in season, and freezing enough to last the entire year.
